Thank You Ted – for 7 Years of Extreme Harris-ment

The following is from Co-Director Joanne Diaz. For 7 years, Ted has brought the members of our organization his own form of Harris-ment.  He has left us much stronger and we are very extremely grateful for his leadership.  We wish Ted all the best in his retirement and I’m sure we’ll continue to see him at future events.

I have had the pleasure of working with Ted Harris for 7 years, organizing and leading the monthly SFOBA meetings.

What started out in 2008 as a typical “meet and greet” has grown into the vibrant, valuable market forum for the South Florida brokerage community that it is today.

There is no payment involved in what we do except for the “sunshine dollars” from your sunny smiles when we see you at the meetings, and hopefully making a difference for our contributions.

So although Ted has said he is retiring, we hope that he will occasionally visit from time to time so we can enjoy his smiling face!!

I received a “quote of the day” yesterday that read:

“Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget”.

Ted – you will be greatly missed, but never forgotten!!

So that YOU won’t forget US, I got you this crystal paperweight that reads:

FBI Miami Making Move To Broward With New $156 Million HQ

The FBI’s far-flung operations in South Florida are being centralized in a new $156 million headquarters in Broward County.

The General Services Administration says FBI employees from 12 locations have begun moving into the single facility. The FBI Miami field office has jurisdiction in federal cases along Florida’s southeast coast from Vero Beach to Key West.

The FBI says more than 1,000 employees can work in the new building, which covers 330,000 square feet on a 20-acre site in Miramar. There also are parking spaces for 1,075 vehicles.

The FBI’s headquarters in South Florida had been located in North Miami Beach for the past 28 years.

Berger Commercial Negotiates 36,000 SF Office Lease For BSO

Berger Commercial Realty announced today that the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) has leased spaced at two local properties represented by the full service commercial real estate firm.

Lloyd BergerIn the first transaction, Lloyd Berger, founder and president of Berger Commercial Realty, represented Northwest 5th Avenue LLC in a lease renewal with the Sheriff’s Office for 47,000 square feet of flex space, located at 820-880 N.W. 5th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.

The air-conditioned warehouse serves as BSO’s Evidence Unit, which receives, catalogs and stores evidentiary, abandoned, forfeited and found property in accordance with state and local law.

Joseph ByrnesAdditionally, Berger Commercial Realty Vice President Joseph Byrnes represented Lauderdale Marketplace Investments in leasing 36,000 square feet of office space to the agency. Located at 2926 N. State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes, BSO’s new office houses the agency’s department of community control.

Berger Commercial oversaw the design and renovation of BSO’s Lauderdale Marketplace office, which opened in late October.

 

 

 

Colliers To Hire 17 People In South Florida

Colliers International is adding 17 people to its South Florida offices, a week after Avison Young closed on its acquisition of Abood Wood Fay, which had been doing business as Colliers International South Florida.

Through the hires, the commercial real estate agency is expanding its market coverage of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Boca Raton.

Colliers business has grown significantly over the past few years.

“In terms of our footprint, we now have almost 500 offices globally and close to 16,000 employees,” Colliers U.S. president Craig Robinson said in the article. “And we’re at a point now where our focus is in a number of strategic markets. In those markets, specifically in the U.S., we see even greater opportunities going forward.”

CBRE Recognized With Four TOBY® Awards

CBRE received four The Outstanding Building of the Year® (TOBY®) Awards by the 2014 Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Fort Lauderdale and the Palm Beaches.

The TOBY Awards are the most prestigious and comprehensive programs in the commercial real estate industry, recognizing outstanding performance and rewarding excellence in building management.

“This is an important honor as it recognizes CBRE’s commitment to excellence and our Asset Services team’s professionalism and outstanding client service delivery capabilities,” said Patty Nooney, Senior Managing Director, CBRE Investor Services.

The awards recognize four office properties that CBRE manages on behalf of its clients and were presented in the following categories:

  • Renovated Building: Sabadell Financial Center, Plantation (Client – Clarion Partners)
  • Suburban Office Park (Low Rise): International Plaza, Boca Raton (Client – Clarion Partners)
  • 100,000 – 249,999 SF Building: The Plaza, Boca Raton (Client – MetLife)
  • 250,000 – 499,999 SF Building: Coastal Tower, Fort Lauderdale (Client – CBRE Global Investors)

 

Stiles, Pointe Group Advisors Win Big At TOBYs

Stiles‘ owned and managed office buildings, the historic Plaza at Las Olas and The AutoNation Building in downtown Fort Lauderdale, were honored with The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) awards from the Fort Lauderdale/Palm Beach Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA).

Overall, Stiles received six distinguished TOBY awards for quality office and retail projects as well as its management personnel.

Stiles corporate headquarters, Plaza at Las Olas, was the recipient of the TOBY award in the Corporate Facility category. Originally built as a two-story structure in the 1940’s, Plaza at Las Olas has been renovated four times over the last eight decades and has become a landmark on Las Olas Boulevard. With its most recent renovation, the property earned LEED certification while being transformed into a contemporary and functional office space boasting nine stories, clean lines, a crisp façade and Class A restaurant and retail on the ground floor.  The property is managed by Stiles property managers Alexandria Brown and Nicki Oneill.

Recipient of the Earth award, The AutoNation Building in downtown Fort Lauderdale was granted top honors for sustainability. The 17-story building is LEED-Gold certified and acknowledged for energy conservation, indoor air quality, green cleaning and tenant education. Managed by Stiles property manager Megan Purdue, the property is located at 200 Southwest 1st Avenue and comprises more than 187,000 square feet of office and 17,000 square feet of retail near Las Olas Riverfront.

In the retail property category, Stiles was honored with a TOBY for its managed shopping center Tower Shops located in Davie. The 368,831-square-foot property is owned by Federal Realty investment Trust and managed by Stiles property manager Danean Belloise.

Stiles is also proud that two of its key personnel, John Braun and Megan Purdue, were honored with the esteemed Engineer of the Year and Property Manager of the Year awards, respectively. Purdue was also presented with the distinguished Ron Macklin Scholarship award for the second consecutive year for her contributions to the industry.

International Place II,  a 95,000-square-foot Class A office building in Sunrise, managed by Miami-based Pointe Group Advisors, was honored with the 2014 “The Outstanding Building of the Year” (TOBY) Award in the category of buildings under 100,000 square feet.

The building’s major tenants include BB&T, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services and Elderly Housing Development Corp. The building is located in the heart of Broward County’s Sawgrass neighborhood, just minutes away from Sawgrass Mills and the BB&T Center.

The TOBY Awards were held at the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort and Spa in Fort Lauderdale, on Nov. 7, 2014.
